In Daniel Radcliffe’s new movie which premiered on Friday, he once again plays a character who has to deal with spooky ghosts. However, this ghostly tale is very far removed from the friendly spectres of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts. The Woman in Black is a properly terrifying horror tale based on the novel by Susan Hill, first published in 1983 and previously adapted for film in 1989.
Set in Edwardian times, the story is based around the experiences of a young lawyer Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe) who is sent by his firm to a small market town in England to deal with the estate of a recently-deceased mysterious old woman named Alice Drablow. Little does Kipps know what he’s getting himself into, but it’s fair to say that his life is never to be the same again.
