Brit actor Henry Cavill delighted Superman fans at the annual Comic Con festival in San Diego yesterday with an appearance to promote his upcoming film debut as the Man of Steel. The 29 year old certainly looks like he’s been putting the hours in down the gym to ensure he has a physique worthy of the iconic Superman costume.
Cavill was treated to a standing ovation by excited fans as he made his way onto the stage before taking part in a panel presentation during which the audience were treated to some sneak peeks of footage from the upcoming movie as well as a specially designed teaser poster featuring Cavill sporting the famous S emblazoned on his costume.
Although Comic Con is undoubtedly a pilgrimage for self-declared movie geeks and comic book fans, and therefore the perfect target demographic for the superhero film genre, both Cavill and film director Zach Synder were careful to explain that they are hoping to also appeal to a wider audience with this latest re-imagining of the Superman story. The pair confirmed that the film will present a modern and more darkly gritty interpretation of the Superman story.
Whilst describing his obvious glee at getting his teeth into such an iconic role, Henry Cavill will no doubt be feeling the pressure that comes with taking on such a beloved character and making the role his own. The Superman suit is definitely a tough costume to fill, but we’re sure that hunky Cavill is just the man for the job. Now we just need to have the patience of a superhero and wait until Man of Steel is released next June!
