I’ll hold my hands up and admit I’m not the biggest fan of horse racing, but one sport I definitely do enjoy is spotting all the amazing head gear on display when the ladies put on the style and hit the grandstand at Royal Ascot.
This is the first year that Ascot’s strict new dress code was put into operation, so the female guests are having to strictly adhere to rules banning bare shoulders, bare heads and high hemlines. The race organisers have employed a type of fashion police described as “dress code assistants” to make sure that visitors respect the regulations, handing out pashminas and fascinators where necessary to ensure elegant style is on display.
As ever, the hats haven’t disappointed. There’ve been some amazing millinery creations on display, including some Union Jack themed fascinators as a nod to the Olympics and an amazing birdcage inspired headpiece said to have cost £3000.
Amongst the classy and stylish hats there were the usual wild and wacky numbers definitely designed to be attention grabbing. Which got us to thinking – which of our fabulous fancy dress hats would we choose if we wanted to stand out from the crowds? With our fantastic range of hats to choose from, it was a close run thing. In the end though, I think the spectacular Parrot Hat from our Funny Hat department has to be the winner!
