Have you been watching the new US telly import which hit screens in the UK last month? “Smash” has been billed as a more grown up rival to the hit show choir comedy drama Glee. The programme focuses on the drama surrounding the characters involved in the development of an original Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe.
With a cast list including the likes of Debra Messing (Will and Grace), Angelica Huston and Brit actor Jack Davenport, Smash turns the spotlight onto the complex behind-the-scenes machinations involved in bringing a Broadway production to the stage. Whilst the fictional punters will get to see the polished finish product when it premieres on stage, we viewers get a sneaky peek at the inner workings of the Broadway machine as the show slowly takes shape.
Which songs should make it onto the final score? How will the executive producer make the budget work?
