Ideas for school holidays fun

Face PaintIt is getting closer to the time of year that parents hate, but children love..school holidays! Very soon thousands of school children will begin the 6 weeks summer holidays where the first few days pass fine but then we start to hear that dreaded statement “I’m bored!” But by planning early you can avoid this from your children and hear are a few tips and ideas that can help.

Keeping the kids entertained is one of the hardest things a mum or dad can do, so use your calendar and mark ‘special days of fun’ that the kids can look forward to. It doesn’t have to be trips out or things that cost a fortune, just a few well chosen activities for both indoors and outdoors to help keep the boredom away.

Face Painting Ideas

Children love to have fun with face paints so check your face painting kits and boxes now. Make sure you have the main colours – red, white, blue, green and yellow and stock up on a few sponges and brushes and then mark that day down as ‘Face Paint Day.’ The kids can wear their old clothes, and even better if the sun is shining, sit outside and have a whole day of face (and body) painting. It may be messy but nothing a quick bath at the end of the day cannot clear up!

Role Play Day

This day is a day where the kids imagination can run wild. Set them the task of writing and performing a play. They can raid the fancy dress box for costumes and accessories and put on the show of their lives. Children love to act and perform so get the aunties and uncles, grandmas and grandads round and see what you’re fantastic kids can create.

Craft day

Most children love to make and create, colour and draw so fill up your doodle draws and let them have a day of creativity. Boys can make paper aeroplanes and have competitions on whose flies the furthest; girls can make princess crowns and decorate them with glitters and gems. This is also a great activity for rainy days (one to keep as an open day just incase)

Go for a walk

Not one of the children’s favourite activities during the school holidays but you can make it fun by turning it into a treasure hunt or tree/bird watch. Print off some things that you would spot in a park or wood and get the kids to tick them off as they find them. Prizes at the end of the walk are always an incentive so always remember to have a tub of sweets or small gifts as a reward.

These are just a few ideas that hopefully will inspire you to keep the ‘I’m bored!” statement away. Activities do not have to cost a fortune and some can even last the whole summer holidays, so get ready for ‘Day 1 – Face Paint Day’ and place an order now for your Face Painting Kits.
