What are you thankful for today?

Holiday Turkey HatThe world truly is a teeny tiny place these days, between jet airline travel and the wonderful world of the internet, the other side of the world has never seemed so close. It feels as if the world is ever smaller in a lot of ways, and one of the most wonderful benefits of this is that we get to learn about and share in some of the fun traditions from other cultures across the globe.

For example, you’re probably already aware that today is Thanksgiving Day in the USA. A big holiday which even rivals Christmas in some families, Thanksgiving sees people across the States gathering with friends and family for a day of celebration and feasting.

Thanksgiving has its roots based firmly in the tradition of the harvest festival and food still plays a key role in the celebration today, with festivities revolving around the all important Thanksgiving dinner. Turkeys will be roasted, sweet potatoes and yams will be mashed, and pumpkins and pecans will be stuffed into pies before people gather around their tables to give thanks for all that is good in their lives.

Just the thought of all that scrumptious food is making my stomach rumble as I sit here typing. Not quite sure that my wee bowl of minestrone soup is going to quite cut it for lunch now! Thanksgiving might be an American tradition, but perhaps we could be inspired by our friends across the pond today? We’re having a great chat in the office just now about what makes us thankful. What about you? What are you giving thanks for today…?
