Matt Smith, better known to telly fans as Doctor Who, scooped the prestigious Male Drama Performance award at the 2012 National Television Awards on Wednesday. Smith beat out stiff competition from the likes of David Threlfall (Shameless) and John Barrowman (Torchwood) to snag the gong. On receiving his award the actor stated that it was a great privilege to win and thanked Dr Who fans for their loyal support. He also announced that, as things stand at the moment, he has no plans to leave the show.
Matt wasn’t the only Dr Who cast member to do well on the night. His co-star Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond on the show, picked up the award for best Female Drama Performance. Gillan, who has already announced her imminent departure from the role, admitted that she’d had the time of her life making the show. Dr Who fans are waiting with bated breath to see how her character, and that of her on-screen husband Rory, will make their departure from the show.
Little fans of the Doctor can celebrate their hero’s success with some fabulous Dr Who fancy dress. As well as the Dr himself, we’ve also got some great deadly Dalek fancy dress and creepy Cyberman costumes.
