Ever wondered what 800 people dressed up as superman looks like…then you should have been at the Kendal Calling Festival last weekend. Reportedly over 800 men, women and children took to the festival in assorted Superman fancy dress costumes to try and raise money for charity and break a world record!
Kendal Calling is a festival based in the Lake District featuring contemporary music and art and has recently won the Best Small Festival award at the LIVE UK awards. This year, as well as big bands such as Primal Scream, Basement Jaxx and the Lightning Seeds festival goers were also treated to a three day house party, a real ale festival and of course the legendry fancy dress day!
The theme for Kendal Calling this year was going to the movies and the fans really took to it with an amazing 1,200 attending the festival dresses as Superman. During the festival there was a five minute count for the largest gathering of Supermen and they beat the Guinness World Record by more than 300 as well as raising an amazing £1,000 for Help the Heroes.
Fancy dress is a great way to help raise money for charity and this kind of ‘gathering’ is great fun too. The London Santa Race in December embraces this idea with thousands of runners dressed as Father Christmas running the streets of London, so maybe you could do this too.
For summer charity events, how about trying the most Hula Dancers in one room? Or for a laugh, you could do the largest gathering of Sumo Wrestlers to walk the streets of your local town?
