Children’s Book Day

childrens-book-day-momLots of schools and other types of clubs celebrated World book day recently. However we are now looking at Children’s book day which is celebrated on the 02nd April.

It has been celebrated since 1967 and is always celebrated on or around Hans Christian Anderson’s birthday. Hans Christian Anderson was a world renowned Danish author and poet. He has many works including plays, novels and poems. However he has been remembered the most for his fairytales.
You may be surprised at just how many of his stories you may know. Some of his most famous are Thumbelina, The little mermaid and The ugly duckling.

Why not introduce your children to these wonderful stories whilst having fun. Pick up one of the books and also get a lovely little costume so whilst reading the book to or with your child, your child can let their imaginations run wild.

Here are a few of the well loved stories which you could get a cute little costume to go with.

The Ugly Duckling

This sweet tale is about a little duckling that is born in a barnyard but is bullied by the other ducklings and animals telling him he is ugly. However to the surprise of these mean animals he transforms into a beautiful swan. Why not pick up a little duck or Chicken Tabard mask for your little one to wear so they can enjoy a little play acting whilst reading this book

The Little Mermaid

This is a story nearly everyone will know and love. This will be mainly due to it being made into a cartoon film by Disney. Yes it is about Ariel the mermaid who decides to give up her life as a mermaid, as she falls in love with a handsome prince. A cute little Ariel mermaid costume would be lovely for your little one.

The Princess and the Pea

This story is about a young lady whom to prove she is a princess is tested by the handsome princes mother. She does this by placing lots of mattresses on top of each other on the princess’s bed and under all of these a single pea. This is to test her physical sensitivity to the pea which then proves to the prince’s mother she is a princess. A beautiful little pink princess costume would be perfect for your child whilst reading this book.

This day is to celebrate and inspire your children to have a love of reading. Maybe by using a costume and making it livelier your child will be all the more inspired. There is such an extensive choice of books for your little one to choose from. Watch your child embrace reading and their education come on in leaps and bounds.
